Born July 12, 1943 in Bluefield, Va., she was the daughter of James Robert and Tinie (Stump) Burress. Gladys lived most of her life in Bluefield, Va. She then moved to Maryland where she made her home with her sister, Helen Clites. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, James, George, Thomas and Raymond Burress; four sisters, Beatrice Splaun, Francis Wright, Edith Virginia and Margaret Lucille Burress. Survivors include sisters, Marie Cole of New Castle, Va., Melvina Aliff of West Palm Beach, Fla., Dorothy Burkett of Lake Worth, Fla., Helen Clites of Flintstone, Md.; brothers, Jack Burress and wife Ernestine of Bluefield, Va., Leonard Burress and wife Faith of Princeton, W.Va., and Kenneth Burress and wife Janice of Prophetstown, Ill.; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011 at noon at the Grandview Mausoleum Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with the Reverend Steve Aker officiating. Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va. is serving the Gladys Gertrude Burress family.
